If you’re searching for a very special, child-friendly, UK family holiday then I think I have the answer for you! Flear Farm Cottages really have thought of everything to ensure you have the best holiday you can and I mean everything!
So our holiday (to celebrate my Mum’s 70th Birthday) didn’t get off to the best start with a car running into the back of us in a traffic jam on the M5 at exactly the same time as our youngest was being car sick! The timing couldn’t have been worse! Picture me leaning into the back of the car armed with a basin and then BANG!
All of that was forgotten in an instant upon arriving at Flear House. I was actually a little emotional as we made our way down the path and through the door into what can only be described as my dream home! Delicious Devonshire Cream Tea and Homemade Scones were laid out ready for our arrival and were demolished before I had a chance to take a photo!
I spent the week taking photos of the house and it’s grounds as it ticked every item on my country home wish list! I just need to win the lottery now to buy something similar! Would probably help if I actually played the lottery though!
Flear House is an enormous country house nestled amongst the rolling hills of the South Hams in South Devon in a gorgeous little village called East Allington. East Allington is also home to a great little country pub called the Fortescue Arms. Adrian and Ian are a delight and the food is fantastic.
Back to the house! The view from every window of Flear house is an absolute delight and during a walk around the vast acres of land of the estate it isn’t long before you come across sheep, horses, alpacas, chickens, wild rabbits and many more animals!
You’ll also find a stunning lake with resident ducks, fed by a beautiful stream.
There’s also an incredible indoor play barn (which kept our children amused for hours), an outdoor play area, the honesty shop, pitch and putt, the Spa (which I of course had to sample and can confirm that Donna is an absolute miracle worker!) and indoor heated swimming pool, which we used on the days when the British weather didn’t play ball!
Flear House sleeps up to 10 people with 5 bedrooms, 1 Super King (it’s the biggest bedroom I’ve ever seen!) with an enormous en-suite jacuzzi bathroom, 2 King (both en-suite) & 2 Twin bedrooms that share a main bathroom. There are also several travel cots available too.
There’s a stunning and very large drawing room.
A children’s playroom with television and an enormous kitchen with a gorgeous 4 oven Aga (I now want to rip out the Greenbank Interiors kitchen to fit an Aga!).
Turn another corner and you’ll come across the huge dinning room.
The house also boasts a heated private outdoor swimming pool and stunning gardens.
There are also another 12 Luxury holiday cottages on the same private country estate.
Some of our family stayed in “The Granary” so I of course had a nose around! The gorgeous south-east facing courtyard as you walk up to the stable style door is just stunning and such a little sun trap as you would expect. There are 3 bedrooms in “The Granary”. 1 King & 2 Twins, one of which is a large loft room with ensuite shower room with the King and remaining Twin sharing a 1st floor family bathroom. The kitchen was a great size and the rest of the cottage was just as you would expect, beautiful with it’s gorgeous original beams.
To say that the owners, Barney and Camilla, have thought of everything is an understatement! The house and facilities are all provided with children in mind. We found absolutely everything we needed included toddler steps and toilets seats!
Nothing, absolutely nothing is too much trouble at Flear Farm. The recipe for the perfect holiday! Thank you Barney and Camilla!
