As we pulled up outside The Lodge in Coln St Aldwyns the excitement levels were at an all time high! The children burst out of the car (as did I!) and through the door of “The Lodge” to explore our home for the week.
As the children ran in and out of each room with shouts of “Wows” and “This is so cool” my husband and I looked at each other in sheer amazement at how wonderfully set up the cottage was for us and our little family.
There are 2 great sized double bedrooms with plenty of cupboard space.
The family bathroom is a great size with a shower over the bath. In addition to this there is also a shower & toilet in the utility room on the ground floor.
On entering the kitchen (which you might think looks quite familiar!) we were greeted with a wonderful (and after a long journey, hugely appreciated) afternoon tea tray complete with a delicious lemon drizzle cake!
Through the kitchen you come through to what we called “Mummy and Daddy’s” lounge. This room overlooks the beautiful garden and is filled with endless copies of interior magazines! Guess where I spent my evenings!
We had arrived armed with a bag full of the essentials; washing up liquid, pepper & salt, foil, cling film, cooking oil etc which never left the bag! Everything you could ever possibly need or wish for is already at the property ready and waiting for you!
Every item you could possibly need for young children is also provided; a cot, steps for washing hands, toilet training seats, high chairs, children’s toys and children’s kitchen ware.
Whilst we unpacked the children began making themselves at home in the TV lounge which is perfectly set up for kids and with surround sound watching a movie is like being at the cinema!
Unpacking took no time at all and with plenty of hangers (often there just aren’t enough are there!) we were able to hang all ours and the children’s clothes. Sometimes it’s the small things that really go a long way!
We were now very settled and with the 6 o’clock Prosecco bell then ringing, Mummy and Daddy were in full holiday mode!
The next day, after a great sleep and a hearty breakfast we headed into the village of Coln St Aldwyns to explore.
The first thing you discover is the local pub which is literally 50 yards away!
The New Inn is a beautiful child & dog friendly, country pub and hotel and the food is delicious. There are plenty of tables outside to enjoy a drink in the sun too. If you are planning on eating there at lunch time at the weekend you will need to book, it’s very popular!
Next you’ll come across the local shop/café/post office. As local shops go it’s pretty special with everything you could possibly need.
We then discovered the village park! Not only is the park in a stunning setting it has lots to keep the children entertained for hours!
We spent a week at “The Lodge” which is very conveniently located for visiting many attractions in and around the Cotswolds. Read my blog covering the child friendly attractions we visited during our stay in the Cotswolds.
This was a gifted stay courtesy of Sykes Cottages. I wasn’t under any obligation to write this Blog and as I type I’m seriously wondering whether I should be sharing this little slice of heaven in case there’s no availability left for us next year! However, I could’t not share it! What an incredible place! It’s a big thumbs up from team Greenbank!
