5 Quick Gardening Tips for Beginners from Expert Gardener Jenny, of The Laundry Garden

Top Gardening Tips for Beginners from avid gardener Jenny from @thelaundrygarden

If you’re new to gardening and aren’t sure where to start here are Jenny’s top 5 tips to help get you started.

1. Understand what you want from your garden

Are you going to grow veg? Have a play area for young children? Space for entertaining? Make a list of these things and factor them into your plan.

2. Find your style

Your garden can be a reflection of you and the period of your property. If you live in an urban area and you like order, then you might enjoy a more clean-cut and symmetrical looking garden. If you live in a cottage then having a wilder look might be your thing.

3. Discover what grows well in your village/town

Look out for what’s growing in your neighbour’s gardens and around the local area, chances are it will grow successfully in your garden too!

4. Get to know your garden space

Its good to give yourself a year to see how you use your garden space, if there are existing trees, shrubs that you like or dislike, and what’s already growing in it through the seasons, know what parts of your garden are in sunshine and shade at certain times of the day.

5. Don’t rush!

We all want that instant finished look, but in order to achieve it, it takes time, money and patience. From my experience, it’s well worth the wait!
